Dignity And First Date Conversation Starters

Conversation is an art, like dancing but a poet once pointed out that those who dance best are the ones who have learnt to dance. Sadly, education world wide across the planet has neglected its duty towards youth by down playing subjects that are considered unimportant and concentrating on subjects such as mathematics and science. As everyone knows these fields have little to do with manners and are most unlikely to assist girls or boys with first date conversation starters.

However sociological studies reveal the importance of social discourse in determining career and academic progress. Without being told, we know somehow that simple greetings mean a lot more than empty words. Although they are important in polite society, they are also part of the very nature of life.

Recognition is an aspect of behavior in life forms that we consider lower than our own. Instinctively, bees dance to signal important information to each other, and ants touch antennae. Polite conversation between human beings fits this pattern of rudimentary life but is used in the most sophisticated societies as ways of conveying attitudes, social status and intention.

An economist who developed what came to be known as game theory once illustrated the relevance of social discourse by walking up to a strange but beautiful girl and say exactly what his real intention were. Predictably she was horrified because he had broken the rules of a game. That game is to cloak our real intentions behind polite words.

Sophisticated people respect each other’s physical space. They allow some inches of private space around other people. Intellectual room is permitted by a few moments of polite conversation before any serious matters are addressed.

First date conversation starters occur in various contexts. Some youths could be downcast at the idea that their witty comments are not altogether dissimilar from the communication antics of bees but there can be no doubt that there are similarities. However, in human affairs there is a rule that dictates the form of exchanges between people and it can be summed up in the word ‘respect’.
